Occupations – Younger Children – Working in television
Preschoolers will do a jigsaw depicting jobs that they can see on television and think about traits that these people should have. They will play the role of actors, presenting emotions using facial expressions, and learn the second part of ‘When I grow up’ song.
Educational aids:
an instrumental version of ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star’ song, photos cut into small parts (an actor, a singer, a dancer, an athlete, a journalist), sheets of paper, glue, ‘Turkish March’, photos of famous athletes, a toy/paper microphone, ‘When I grow up’ song.
Description of activities:
1. ‘Welcome welcome everyone’ – greeting children – children sit in a circle. Teacher plays an instrumental version of a ‘Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star’ song and sings the ‘Welcome welcome everyone’ lyrics. Children move according to the lyrics sung by their teacher.
Tune: “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star”
Welcome, Welcome (putting hands in one’s laps)
Everyone
Now you’re here
Let’s have some fun (spreading one’s arms)
First let’s clap our hands like so (clapping)
Then reach down and touch our toes (touching one’s toes)
Welcome, Welcome
Everyone
Now you’re here
Let’s have some fun.
2. ‘Jigsaw puzzle’ – didactic activity – teacher asks children to go to the tables where they can find necessary materials – photos cut into small parts, sheets of paper, and glue. Teacher explains that the children’s task is to do a jigsaw and glue it to the sheet of paper. When they finish their work, they must sit in a circle. Teacher, using gestures, presents the jobs: an actor, a singer, a dancer, an athlete and a journalist, and children who have the photos of people performing presented jobs stand up and tell what a job it is.
3. ‘Dancers’ – movement activity – children stand in a circle and teacher plays any song, e.g. ‘Turkish March’. The volunteers, one by one, can stand in the middle of the circle and present a move that the others have to repeat. The activity lasts as long as all the volunteers take part in it.
4. ‘Television’ – conversation – teacher asks children how the jobs (an actor, a singer, a dancer, an athlete, and a journalist) are related and where we can see them. Then, teacher explains that an actor is a person who performs in the theatre, but also in movies and TV series that we can watch on TV. We can also see some concerts of various singers, dance programmes and competitions with many dancers, or sports events with athletes. Most often we see journalists who conduct interviews or present information. All of these jobs we can see on TV. Teacher asks children what traits these people should have. Teacher lists some traits: courage, self-confidence, and openness to new people and experiences.
5. ‘Actor’s emotions’ – movement activity – children walk around the classroom to the sound of any song, e.g. ‘Turkish March’. When the music stops, teacher says what mood children are going to present using only their facial expressions and gestures (e.g. terrified, happy, sad, nervous, shocked). The activity should involve 4-5 different moods.
6. ‘Athletes around the world’ – didactic activity – teacher asks children what athletes they know and what sports they do. Then, teacher shows the photos of the most famous athletes around the world and describes them briefly:
- Christiano Ronaldo – a Portuguese professional footballer who plays as a forward and captain for both Saudi Professional League club, Al Nassr, and the Portugal national team. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time, he has won 32 trophies in his career.
